These bites are the perfect appetizer - easy to make and people rave over them. You can use the biscuits as described in the recipe, or substitute readily available pre-made pizza crusts or any other sturdy bread as the base.
Ingredients
1 jar Sweet Onion Jam
1 red onion, peeled & minced
1 can Large Buttermilk Biscuits (such as Pilsbury Grands)
(you can also use any other base such as pre-made pizza crusts)
Smoked gouda cheese, grated
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Bake biscuits according to directions. Split biscuits in half and place each half on a baking sheet (inside facing up). Spread approx. 1 Tablespoon of Sweet Onion Jam on each half and spread to cover. Sprinkle a small amount of minced red onion over jam along with a bit of smoked gouda. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until cheese has melted and become golden brown. Slice biscuits into bite size pieces & serve.
A 2010 NASFT sofi Award Winner, this jam is a magical combination of the sweet onions that I grew up with in the South and fresh roasted garlic. We use this jam to create our sharp cheddar Sweet Onion Jam Biscuits and spoon it over cream cheese to serve with water crackers. It also makes an amazing marinade and glaze for roasted pork!
